Le Moyne Sweeps Stonehill to Close Out Regular Season

Harrison pitches Dolphins to both wins with complete game efforts

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 1, 2011) – Le Moyne College handed Stonehill College a doubleheader sweep to close out the regular season in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Niland Athletic Complex this afternoon. Le Moyne cruised to a 6-0 win in game one, before closing the series out with a 3-2 victory in game two.

Junior Morgan Edmondson (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson) led the Le Moyne offense on the afternoon as she hit a combined 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles and two RBI, while freshman Sarah Anderson (Cobleskill, N.Y./Cobleskill-Richmondville) chipped in four RBI, while hitting 3-for 6. Anderson also pitched both games for the Dolphins, allowing a combined two runs, one earned, on ten hits with nine strikeouts and five walks over 14 innings while earning both wins.

Freshman Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) hit 2-for-5 a the plate for Stonehill, while senior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) both chipped in with RBIs.

Le Moyne 6, Stonehill 0

Sarah Harrison tossed a five hit shutout and drove in two runs to lead Le Moyne to a 6-0 victory over Stonehill in game one.

Harrison (13-9) scattered the five hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking three. She also hit 1-for-3 with two RBI at the plate.

Sophomore Demetra Kermidas (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) was 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored for Le Moyne, while freshman Sarah Vevante (Bethpage, N.Y./Family Foundation) hit 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Morgan Edmondson finished 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Junior Leah Ford (Pulaski, N.Y./Pulaski) finished 2-for-3.

Freshman Lindsay McKillop was 2-for-2 at the plate for Stonehill and also took the loss (5-6) in the circle, yielding six runs, four earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts and no walks over 4.1 innings.

Le Moyne got all the runs it would need in its first at bat as Shea led off with a single and freshman Liz Weber (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) followed with a hit. The two were sacrificed into scoring position and then scored when a fly ball by Kermidas was dropped.

Le Moyne scored two more in the fourth on an RBI single by Vevante and a throwing error when Ford reached on a single. Harrison added a two-run single through the left side to close out the scoring in the fifth.

Le Moyne 3, Stonehill 2

Sophomore Kelsey Wilcox went 1-for-3 with an RBI in game two. 

Le Moyne held off a Stonehill rally for a 3-2 victory in game two behind another strong pitching performance from Sarah Harrison.

Harrison pitched another complete game (14-9), allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks. She was also 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

Demetra Kermidas hit 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Morgan Edmondson finished 1-for-1 with a walk, double and run scored. Liz Weber finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Kelsey Wilcox, after seeing her 12 game hitting streak halted in game one, batted 1-for-3 with an RBI in game two. Chelsea Stryker batted 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Junior Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) took the loss (1-8), allowing three runs, just one earned, on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks over 4.1 innings.

Le Moyne struck first again in its first at bat as Weber singled with one out and scored on an error when Kermidas reached with an infield single. The Dolphins extended their lead to 3-0 in the fifth when Weber struck out, but reached on a passed ball, before Edmondson doubled and the pair scored on a ground out by Kermidas and Harrison single.

Stonehill started its rally in the sixth as sophomore Courtney Marchand (Raymond, N.H./Timberlane Regional) drew a leadoff walk and scored on a single to left center by Wilcox. The Skyhawks loaded the bases in the seventh and Stryker drew a bases loaded walk to draw them within a run, but Harrison escaped the jam with a ground out by the next batter.

Stonehill (18-26, 14-14 NE-10) sees its season come to a close with an 18-28 record overall, 14-16 in NE-10 play. Le Moyne (18-20-1, 16-10 NE-10) earned a berth in the NE-10 Tournament and will face Adelphi University for a first round matchup on Tuesday.
