Adelphi Tops Stonehill, 3-1

Leo leads Panthers to game one victory, game two postponed to Friday

EASTON, Mass. (April 28, 2011) – Adelphi University kept its hot streak alive with a 3-1 victory over Stonehill College in game one of today's Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader at Fr. William Garland Field. Game two was postponed due to rain and lightning with Adelphi leading 4-0 in the third inning, but will be made up in its entirety tomorrow at Fr. Gartland Field at 3 p.m.

Sophomore Jeanine Leo (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville) paced Adelphi's offense effort as se hit 3-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Sophomore Amy Ogden (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) was 2-for-3 for the Panthers, while senior Maria Canino (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Amanda Krier (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Lake City) hit 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Senior Leighann Bell (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) earned the win (13-10) in the circle for Adelphi, allowing an earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.

Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) provided the offense for Stonehill, going 1-for-3 with a home run. Freshman Christina Swider (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) hit 1-for-2 for the Skyhawks, while classmate Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) finished 1-for-1 with a pinch hit single.

Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) took the loss (6-6), allowing three earned runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings.

Adelphi opened the scoring with two in the second as Krier led off with a double, was sacrificed to third and scored on a single up the middle by Leo. Canino drove in Leo, who got into scoring position by stealing second, with a single down the leftfield line. The Panthers added an insurance run in the seventh as Leo led off with her eighth home run of the season.

Eisenmann provided Stonehill's lone run in the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff homer down the rightfield line, her sixth of the season.

Stonehill (16-25, 12-13 NE-10) will conclude its regular season on the road on Saturday at The College of Saint Rose and Sunday at Le Moyne College, respectively, at noon each day. Adelphi (25-20, 17-8 NE-10) hosts Merrimack College on Monday at noon.
