Stonehill Posts Dramatic Sweep of Saint Michael’s

EASTON, Mass. (April 7, 2011) – Stonehill College won for the sixth time in eight games with a dramatic sweep of Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference softball action at Fr. William Gartland, CSC, Field this afternoon. The Skyhawks erased a four-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to post a 5-4 walk off win in game one, before coasting to a 9-0 triumph in five innings in the nightcap.

Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) paced the offense on the day for Stonehill as she hit a combined 3-for-6 with a game-tying grand slam in game one, finishing with six RBI and two runs scored. Junior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was a combined 4-for-7 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Freshman Greer Lemnah (Lyndon Center, Vt./Lyndon Institute) paced Saint Michael's as she batted 3-for-6 with a run scored on the day. Classmate Bethany Falls (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) finished 2-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.

Stonehill scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for an improbable 5-4 victory in game one, capped by a walk-off solo homer with two outs by freshman Jocelynne Morrell (West Haven, Conn./West Haven). Nicole Eisenmann's grand slam knotted the scored two batters earlier in the frame.

Eisenmann finished 2-for-4 with the grand slam, while Chelsea Stryker went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) batted 2-for-3, while Morrell was 1-for-4 with her first career home run.

Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) picked up the win in relief for Stonehill (4-3) as she allowed just a hit over 2.2 scoreless innings, striking out one and walking none. Classmate Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) started in the circle for the Skyhawks and allowed four earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk over 4.1 innings.

Greer Lemnah led Saint Michael's by hitting 3-for-4 with a run scored. Sophomore Lindsay Houston (Concord, N.H./Concord) batted 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Bethany Falls finished 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored.


Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann was a combined 3-for-6 with six RBI, belting a game-tying grand slam in the seventh inning of game one that proved to spark the Skyhawks to the doubleheader sweep. 

Sophomore Stephanie Frank (Essex, Vt./Essex) took the loss (1-7) as she surrendered the five runs, three earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks in 6.2 innings.

Saint Michael's struck first with a pair of runs in the third as Lemnah singled to left with two out before Falls followed with her first collegiate home run to center. The Purple Knights added single runs in the fourth and fifth to open the 4-0 advantage. Houston delivered an RBI single with one out in the fourth, while senior Meghan Colitti (Dover, N.H./Berwick Academy) registered an RBI single with the bases loaded and one out in the fifth. Colitti's RBI single chased Krantz, but Andrew came in and got an inning ending double play to escape the jam.

Freshman Nicole Schneider (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) sparked Stonehill's rally in the seventh with a pinch hit single up the middle with one out as the Skyhawks went on to load the bases when the next two batters reached on a single and error. Eisenmann's fourth home run of the season to left center tied it and after the next batter was retired, Morrell ended the game with her first collegiate homer to nearly the exact same spot for the walk off win.


Freshman Lindsay McKillop scattered four hits over five shutout innings for her second win of the year in the circle in game two.

Stonehill kept the bats going in game two, collecting ten hits, while freshman Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) tossed five shutout innings to claim a 9-0 victory in five innings.

McKillop scattered four hits over the five shutout innings to earn the win (2-4) in the circle, striking out three and walking none. Both her wins this season have been by shutout and she also helped her own cause at the plate by batting 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Chelsea Stryker batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored for Stonehill, while Nicole Eisenmann hit 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) was also 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored, collecting a triple. Senior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout School) chipped in by going 1-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored.

Meghan Colitti was 1-for-2 for Saint Michael's, while Bethany Falls finished 1-for-3.

Freshman Laura McCormack (Natick, Mass./Natick) took the loss (1-5) for the Purple Knights, allowing eight runs, four earned, on seven hits with a strikeout and no walks in 1.2 innings.

Stonehill jumped on top quick with a pair of runs in the first. Stryker led off with a single and scored when Eisenmann reached on a fielder's choice. Abarr followed with a double down the leftfield line that scored Eisenmann.

Stonehill broke the game open with six in the second. Stryker had an RBI single before Miller legged out a two-run triple down the rightfield line. Eisenmann chipped in with an RBI single as well in the inning. The Skyhawks tacked on a run in the fourth when McKillop collected an RBI single.

Stonehill (10-14, 6-2 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts American International College for an NE-10 doubleheader starting at 12:30 p.m. Saint Michael's (2-12, 0-4 NE-10) is scheduled to host Adelphi University on Saturday at noon.
