Stonehill Sweeps Past Nyack

Skyhawks blank Warriors 5-0 in game one, cruise to 18-4 triumph in nightcap

NYACK, N.Y. (March 26, 2011) – Stonehill College posted a commanding doubleheader sweep of Nyack College in non-conference softball action in the lower Hudson Valley on Friday afternoon. Stonehill notched a 5-0 shutout victory in game one before cruising to an 18-4 triumph in five innings in the nightcap.

Sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) provided the offense and freshman Lindsay McKillop (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) tossed her first collegiate shutout to lead Stonehill to the 5-0 win in game one.

McKillop collected her first collegiate win (1-4) for Stonehill as she scattered six hits over seven innings with a strikeout and two walks in the shutout performance. She also hit 1-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.

Wilcox batted 2-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI to lead Stonehill's seven-hit attack. Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Stonehill got on the board with a pair of runs in the third inning. Junior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and freshman Christina Swider (Hebron, Conn./RHAM) drew two out walks, before Eisenmann delivered an RBI single and Swider scored on a double-steal with sophomore Courtney Marchand (Raymond, N.H./Timberlane Regional), who was running for Eisenmann.

Stonehill doubled its lead in the fourth when Wilcox drove in McKillop with her third home run of the season with two out. Wilcox delivered again as the Skyhawks rounded out the scoring in the sixth with an RBI double that scored McKillop who reached with a two out single.


Sophomore Kaitlin Miller was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a two-run home run in the Skyhawks game two triumph.
Stonehill 18, Nyack 4 (5 innings)

Sophomore Kaitlin Miller (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) fueled Stonehill's best offensive output in over seven years as Stonehill dispatched Nyack 18-4 in five innings in game two.

Miller hit 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a home run, two runs scored and four RBI to lead six Stonehill players with multiple hits. Senior Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while freshman Angela Moskwa (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and runs scored. Chelsea Stryker chipped in by going 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored, as senior Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I./The Prout School) batted 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Courtney Marchand finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.

Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) earned her first win of the season (1-2) in the circle with two scoreless innings of relief, yielding a hit and three walks with two strikeouts. Classmate Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) started and allowed four earned runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks in two-plus innings.

Stonehill took control with a seven-run second as Moskwa delivered a two-run single and Stryker had an RBI double to key the inning. The Skyhawks added three more in the third to take a 10-1 lead. Miller, Langlois and Marchand combined for three-straight doubles to spark the inning.

 

Stonehill (4-10, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday when it visits Bloomfield College for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks are scheduled to open their home schedule with a Northeast-10 twin bill with Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m.
