Stonehill Drops Pair at Rebel Spring Games


Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann was a combined 3-for-6 over the Skyhawks two games today, including 2-for-3 with a home run in game one. 

Wayne State tops Skyhawks 8-4, Tiffin notched 4-0 shutout win

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 18, 2011) – Stonehill College returned to action following a day off and dropped a pair of contests as play continued at the Rebel Spring Games today. Wayne State (Mich.) University posted an 8-4 win over Stonehill in game one today, before Tiffin University registered a 4-0 win in the nightcap.

Wayne State used six Stonehill errors to score seven unearned runs on its way to an 8-4 win.

Sophomore Nicole Eisenmann (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater) led Stonehill as she hit 2-for-3 with a home run and RBI. Junior Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored, while sophomore Kelsey Wilcox (Canterbury, Conn./Griswold) finished 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Junior Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass./Hudson) took the loss in the circle for Stonehill, allowing six runs, none earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and no walks over four innings. Freshman Nicole Schneider (Hillsdale, N.J./Pascack Valley) closed the game out for the Skyhawks, allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits.

Stonehill struck first in the bottom of the first as Stryker led off with a triple and scored on an RBI single from freshman Christina Swider (Hebron, Conn./RHAM). Wayne State answered right away with three unearned in the top of the second. The Warriors loaded the bases with a pair of singles and an error, scoring all three runs after the inning should have ended. Freshman Amanda Burnard (Canton, Mich./Plymouth) drove in two with a single, before the third run scored when junior Alison Allen (Redford, Mich./Farmington Hills Mercy) reached on the second Skyhawk error of the innings.


Junior Chelsea Stryker hit 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two runs scored in game one. 

Wayne State tacked on three more unearned runs in the fourth, reaching base with three hits and an error. Stonehill wouldn't go away quietly, adding single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Wilcox doubled in the fifth and scored on a pinch-hit RBI single by freshman Angela Moskwa (West Suffield, Conn./Suffield). Eisenmann led off the sixth with a home run and then Stryker doubled and scored off sophomore Casey Remick (Norton, Mass./Norton) in the seventh.

Tiffin 4, Stonehill 0

A pair of Tiffin University pitchers held Stonehill to just three hits in a shutout performance in picking up a 7-0 victory.

Freshman Mindy Meredith (Peninsula, Ohio) and junior Abbey Cooksey (Newark, Ohio) combined on a three-hit shutout. Meredith picked up the win, allowing no runs on two hits with eight strike outs. Cooksey yielded just one hit in three scoreless innings pitched.

Nicole Eisenmann picked up a hit in three at bats for Stonehill, while Christina Swider went 1-for-2. Kelsey Wilcox chipped in a pinch-hit single in her lone at bat in the seventh.

Junior Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) took the loss in the circle, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with a walk.

Tiffin got on the scoreboard with a five-run fourth. Sophomore Lesy Herbert (Sterling, Ohio) led off with a double and scored on a single by Mindy Meredith (Peninsula, Ohio). The Dragons loaded the bases and yielded two runs in the fourth as senior Melodi Murrieta (Superior, Ariz.) delivered a two-run single.  Freshman Torrie Terry (Toledo, Ohio) added an RBI single, while freshman Caitlin Houk (Heath, Ohio) singled in a run and junior Amanda Temple (Toledo, Ohio) had an RBI single as well.

Stonehill (2-8, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action tomorrow for its final doubleheader its spring break trip as it will face Augu3stana (S.D.) College at 1 p.m., before facing LIU-C.W. Post at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks are scheduled to open their home schedule with a Northeast-10 doubleheader with Saint Michael's College on Saturday, April 2, at 1 p.m.
