Kissimmee, Fla. - The Stonehill Skyhawks dropped their first two games of the 2009 season at the Rebel Games on Sunday afternoon. The first game was a case of too little too late as Stonehill mounted a three run rally in the final inning but came up a short, losing to eighth ranked Ferris St. 5-4. In the second game of the afternoon, the Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead after the first, but St. Cloud St. scored 11 unanswered runs to take the 11-2 victory.

In game one of the day the Skyhawks came out with freshman Kaitlyn Andrews (Hudson, Mass.) on the mound.  Making her first career start, she held Ferris St. scoreless through the first two innings. However, in the third the Sarah Mueller reached on an error to open the inning and came around to score, along with Amanda Harringon on a double to right center field by Flores.

Ferris St. returned the favor in the top of the fourth as Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn.) reached first on an error by the shortstop. After a flyout by Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.), Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I.) singled to advance the runner, and Langlois reached home on Kristen Clark's (Brockton, Mass.) fielder's choice.  It would be the only run of the inning for Stonehill.

The Skyhawks would be held without a run for the next two innings, while giving up three more, including an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Clark walked to start the inning, and senior Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) singled after a Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y.) strikeout.  Following another groundout, Stonehill was down to their last out.  Senior Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) responded, blasting a line drive three-run homer over the center field fence to cut the Ferris St. lead to 5-4.  However, any chance at a comeback ended as freshman catcher Sarah Stumper (St. James, N.Y. ) flied out to end the game.

Stonehill carried over their momentum from the first game into the second, as freshman Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass.) mowed down St. Cloud St. 1-2-3.  To open the bottom of the first, Stryker, who had three hits on the day, bunted for a base hit.  Brides then flew out while Yessenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) walked, but Marrero and Skryker were stranded as the final two batters of the inning got out.

Reardon kept the Huskies at bay in the second, while Stonehill got their offense going once again. Sheehy walked as the second batter in the inning and then advanced to second on a groundout by Abarr.  The senior scored on a single by Clark for the 1-0 lead, but a strikeout two batters later ended the chance for any more runs.

St. Cloud St. found their grove over the next two and two third innings, scoring six times before Reirdon was replaced by freshman Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y.), who got the final out of the fifth.  Stonehill meanwhile had three hits during the time period, but couldn't put a run across.

The Huskies kept scoring, grabbing five more run by the end of their at bats in the seventh.  In the Skyhawks final at bats Skryker bunted for another base hit to open the inning and eventually came around to score the final run of the game for Stonehill.
