South Burlington, Vt. -  Behind more excellent pitching from freshmen hurlers, surging Stonehill swept a pair of games from host Saint Michael's, rallying for a 4-3 win in game one and blanking the Purple Knights 4-0 in game two in Northeast-10 Conference softball action on Thursday at Doc Jacobs Field.

In the opener, Stonehill scored three runs - two unearned - in the top of the fifth inning to erase a 2-0 deficit. Senior Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) had an RBI triple to get the Skyhawks on the scoreboard, and scored the tying run on a throwing error. After a wild pitch, classmate Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.) gave the visitors the lead for good with an infield single.

Sheehy finished with three singles in game one, while freshman Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y.) singled twice. Freshman Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bats, N.Y.) earned her first collegiate victory, pitching a complete game.

For Saint Michael's, sophomore Kelly Rose Losi had an RBI double in the second inning, and scored later in the frame on a groundout. Senior Megan O'Connor rapped a run-scoring double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, pulling the hosts to within one run.

Also for the Purple Knights, sophomore Meghan Colitti singled twice and stole two bases, while senior Ashley Harkins doubled and scored a run. O'Connor suffered the loss on the mound, as she allowed just one earned run in five-plus innings of work.

In the nightcap, freshman Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.) pitched a complete-game seven-hitter, walking just one batter, as the Skyhawks blanked the Purple Knights.

Senior Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) opened the scoring in the top of the second inning with a solo home run - her third in as many games - and Stonehill doubled its lead in the fourth on an RBI double from senior Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.). Mottau completed the scoring in the top of the sixth inning, belting a two-run homer.

Mottau finished game two 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Young also went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Brides added a double and single to help the Skyhawks' nine-hit attack, while sophomore Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn.) singled twice.

Stonehill (6-16, 6-4 Northeast-10), now winners of five straight games, returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at UMass-Lowell.
