EASTON, Mass. - A six-run second inning in game two propelled host Stonehill to an 8-7 win, giving the Skyhawks a split with visiting Southern New Hampshire University on Thursday afternoon at Father Gartland Field.  The Penmen posted a 2-0 shutout victory in the opener behind Melissa Pessotti's two-run homer in the second inning.

Kelsey Griffin twirled a four-hitter for Southern New Hampshire, walking just two and striking out 11 to pick up the win to move to 5-2 on the season.  Freshman Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) was the hard luck loser for the Skyhawks, tossing a complete game and allowing just one hit over the final five innings.

SNHU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first of game two, but after being shutout in consecutive games, the Stonehill bats came to life, plating a single run in the first and then six in the second highlighted by Courtney Young's (Danvers, Mass.) league-leading eighth home run of the season.

The lead eventually grew to 8-2, before Southern New Hampshire mounted a rally that featured a pair of homeruns - one from Melissa Vitagliano in the fifth and then an Ashley Bernstein blast in the seventh that chased game two starter Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.). Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) came in and got the final two outs, including striking out Pessotti with the go-ahead run on first base to end the game.

The hitting star for Stonehill was senior Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.), who went 2-fo-3 in both games, while Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in game two.

The Skyhawks improved to 10-18 overall and 10-5 in Northeast-10 action, while the Penmen moved to 14-20 overall and 12-8 in league play.
