Easton, Mass. - Behind a pair of standout pitching performances from Jenna Vanacore and Jennifer Farrelly, Le Moyne, ranked No. 14 in the most recent NFCA Division II Poll, knocked off host Stonehill 7-0 and 4-1 in the Northeast-10 opening doubleheader for both teams on Saturday afternoon at Fr. Gartland Field.

With the wins, the Dolphins improve to 14-6 overall and 2-0 in league action, while the Skyhawks fall to 0-14 and 0-2 in Northeast-10 play.

In game one, Vanacore held Stonehill to just two hits while striking out 10 to pick up her eighth win of the season and fifth shutout.

The Dolphins scored two unearned runs off of Skyhawk starter Samantha Krantz (Hampton, Bays, N.Y.) in the top of the first on a two-run single from Farrelly.

Things stayed that way until the Le Moyne seventh as both pitchers found their grooves  - Krantz retired 10 straight batters at one point and Vanacore sat down 12 in row.

With two outs in the final frame, the Dolphins scored five unearned runs, highlighted by Barbara Shea's three-run homer to left field.

Stonehill took an early 1-0 lead in game two when Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) doubled to right, plating freshman Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y.) who reached base when she was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.

Freshman hurler Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.), who allowed a single in the first, retired eight straight batters before an infield hit to start the fourth, started an offensive rally for the Dolphins.

Farrelly came up with another big hit, this one a two-run double to left field that landed just outside the outstretched arms of sophomore Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I.). Another RBI single later in the frame gave LeMoyne a 3-1 lead before Andrews was able to get the final out of the inning.

An RBI double to left center in the sixth, made the score 4-1 as freshman reliever Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass.) was able to get the final two outs to end the inning on popups.

The Skyhawks loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Farrelly was able to record the last two outs without yielding another run.

Krantz went 6.2 innings, allowing six hits and seven runs, none of which were earned in game one, while Andrews tossed 5.1 innings on eight-hit ball. She yielded four unearned runs and recorded one strikeout.

Farrelly improved to 5-2, posting her sixth complete game, as she allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out seven.

Kristen Clark (Brockton, Mass.), Abarr, Sarah Stumper (St. James, N.Y.) and Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.) added hits for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Merrimack for a doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m.
