Big Innings Doom Skyhawks

Kissimmee, Fla. - The Skyhawks allowed an eight run inning in their first game and a four run inning in their second as they dropped both of their contests on Thursday to fall to 0-8 on the early season. Stonehill lost 9-1 to Concordia University in the first game of the day and allowed five late runs against Indianapolis University to fall 9-3. 

In the first contest of the day, Stonehill grabbed the early 1-0 lead. Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) reached on an error with one out and then moved over to second on a passed ball. Senior Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) hit an infield fly which dropped right behind the pitcher and scored Brides from second.  

Kate Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) making her first appearance of the season gave up eight runs in just her first two innings of work.  Freshman Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.) came in relief and gave up one run on three hits over the final five innings, while freshman catcher Sarah Stumper (St. James, N.Y.) had the best hitting performance of her young career, going 2-3 with a double.

Against Indianapolis, Andrews gave up four runs in the first two innings but the Skyhawks came back in the bottom of the second.  Stumper reached on a walk and a fielder's choice by Kristen Clark (Brockton, Mass.) followed by an error by the second baseman moved Stumper to third. Meghan Sheehy's (East Islip, N.Y.) single scored Stumper, and an error by the shortstop on a Sarah Bolasevich (Cromwell, Conn.) hit allowed Clark to score.  Stonehill finished their scoring in the inning on a 4-3 groundout by Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn.) that scored Sheehy. 

Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) came in to pitch in the third and finished off the game, allowing an earned run in the fourth and four unearned runs in the sixth as her record fell to 0-2.  

The Skyhawks return to action on Friday when they finish off the 2009 Rebel Games when they play Tiffin and Adelphi.
