Waltham, Mass.  - Stonehill got two strong pitching performances from freshman hurlers Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) and Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.) but could only muster a split with host Bentley on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the first game 2-1 and taking the nightcap, 3-0.

Krantz was strong in the opening game, allowing just three hits over six innings while striking out three. The Falcons scored both of their runs in the third inning, one coming on an RBI double and the other on a sacrifice fly.

Bentley's offense was stymied the rest of the way as Krantz didn't allow another hit, retiring the final nine batters she faced.

Stonehill actually took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when they had three of their seven hits, highlighted by an RBI single by Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.).

The Skyhawks had an opportunity in the fourth inning to tie the game when they had runners on first and second with one out, but Falcon hurler Tara Fogarty retired the next two batters to escape unscathed.

Fogarty picked up her seventh win of the season with a complete game seven-hitter, allowing just one run while striking out 11 and yielding no walks.

Game two for the Skyhawks, saw Andrews toss the first complete game shutout since Danielle Mason defeated Assumption 4-0, last April 6th.

Stonehill plated its first run on an RBI double from freshman Chelsea Stryker (Baldwin, N.Y.) and then added another in the fourth when senior Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) led off the inning with a triple to left field. She then scored on a base hit by Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.).

The Skyhawks tacked on a run in the sixth when Brides opened the frame with a single and then stole second. A sacrifice from Marrero got her to third and Sheehy delivered an RBI single, making the score 3-0.

Andrews' only trouble came in the sixth when she had a runner on third with two outs but she was able to strike out Maitlyn Kraft swinging.

Andrews, who opened her career with six straight losses, has both of Stonehill's victories this season, after scattering six hits, allowing no walks and recording three strikeouts.

Sheehy led the Skyhawks' offensive attack with a 2-for-4 in game two, while driving in a pair of runs in the doubleheader.

Stonehill returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Franklin Pierce on Fr. Gartland Field beginning at 3 p.m.
