Garden City, N.Y - The Stonehill women's softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, falling to Adelphi 8-0 in five innings, and then losing 1-0 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning in the second contest.

The Panthers jumped on pitcher Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) from the get go I the first game, as the first four runners reached base in the bottom of the first. The junior however, was able to get out of the inning with only two runs crossing the plate.

In the top of the second, the Skyhawks put three of the first four batters on to load the bases for Sophomore Katy Abarr (Richmond, R.I.).  Abarr stuck out swinging and sophomore Ashley Langlois (Ridgefield, Conn.) grounded to the pitcher to end the threat.

Mendall held Adephi scoreless in the bottom of the second, but Stonehill couldn't close the gap in the top of the third, leaving senior Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) stranded on third.

The bottom of the inning saw Mendall give up six earned runs, while the Skyhawks were held to just one hit over their final two at bats.  This allowed the Panthers to walk away with the five inning 8-0 victory.

The second game of the afternoon was a different story as freshman pitcher Kellie Reardon (Burlington, Mass.) held Adelphi to just two hits over the first four innings. However, the Skyhawks weren't able to get a hit over that same time span.

In the fifth, Reardon ran into her first trouble of the day, putting runners on first and second with only one out.  Freshman Samantha Krantz (Hampton, Bays, N.Y.) came in to relieve Reardon.  The first batter she faced reached on an error to load the bases, but Krantz struck out the next batter, and got the final out of the inning on a fly to right field.

Krantz moved down Adephi in the sixth but in the seven Katie Brophy reached on a single to start the inning and eventually reached third on two Sacrifices.  Krantz walked the next batter, before Rochelle Noren singled home the game winner.

Leighann Bell finished with a no-hitter for the Panthers to drop Stonehill to 0-12 on the season.  They return to action on Saturday when they host Le Moyne in a doubleheader.
