Worcester, Mass. - The Stonehill softball team needed to win one game in their doubleheader against Assumption to qualify for the NE-10 Tournament, however they lost a 2-1 in eight innings and then 3-1 decision in the second game to end any chances at postseason play.

The Skyhawks finish the season their season at 13-27 and 13-15 in conference play.

In the first game of the doubleheader neither team could get on the board until Stonehill scored with one out in the fourth on a bases loaded walk by freshman catcher Sarah Stumper (St. James, N.Y.). Senior Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) reached first on a fielder's choice, but Kristen Clark (Brockton, Mass.) was thrown out at home and Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) flied out to end the threat.

In the bottom of the inning the Greyhounds countered, scoring a run to even the game at 1-1.  Stonehill pitcher Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) held Assumption at bay until the bottom of the eighth when they led off the inning with a single and the winning run came around to score two batters later.

In the second game, freshman Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.) pitched the first three innings allowing three runs on eight hits before fellow classmate Samantha Krantz (Hampton, Bays, N.Y.) held Assumption to just one hit with two strikeouts over the final three.

On offense Stonehill didn't score until a Young solo shot in the sixth brought the Skyhawks within two at 3-1. In the top of the seventh, Stonehill put runners on first and second with one out but was unable to push them across as they lost by a 3-1 final.

Young finished her career at Stonehill as the school's all-time home run leader with 30 career dingers and is fifth on the career hits list with 156 and tied for second with 102 RBI in her career.
