Easton, Mass. - Playing in her final games at Gartland Field, senior Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) made them memorable. The school's all-time homerun leader added to her totals with a pair of clutch roundtrippers as Stonehill swept an important Northeast-10 softball doubleheader from visiting American International on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Young blasted a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Skyhawks a much-needed 5-3 win over the Yellow Jackets. Then in game two with Stonehill holding on to a 1-0 lead, she smacked an insurance two-run bomb in the bottom of the sixth, lifting the Skyhawks to a 3-0 victory.

Young, who now has 29 home runs for her career, has shattered her own single-season record of seven with her Northeast-10 leading 12 this season.

Freshman Samantha Krantz (Hampton Bays, N.Y.) earned the win in game one, going eight innings while scattering 11 hits and yielding three earned runs.

The game two victory went to Kaitlin Andrews (Hudson, Mass.), who limited the Yellow Jackets to four hits in seven innings while striking out three and walking none.

Stonehill improves to 13-25 overall and 13-13 in Northeast-10 play, while American International slips to 21-21 and 13-13 in league action. With the sweep, the Skyhawks will hold a tiebreaker with the Yellow Jackets.

Tomorrow's doubleheader at Assumption, the team sitting in ninth place in the Northeast-10 standings at 12-14, will loom large for the Skyhawks. The top eight team advance to the Northeast-10 Tournament.

Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
