Mottau's One-Hitter Gives Skyhawks 12-2 Win

Kissimmee, Fla. - Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) tossed a one hit gem, snapping Stonehill's three-game losing streak in the process as the Skyhawks defeated St. Joseph's of Indiana, 12-2 at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fla.

Stonehill exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning, which was highlighted by Yesenia Marrero's (Brockton, Mass.) three run homer.

Ironically, St. Joseph's held a 2-0 lead in the third inning without recording a hit. Back-to-back walks to lead off the frame along with a sacrifice put runners in scoring position with one out. An error and a steal of home gave the Pumas their edge.

The Skyhawks quickly responded with four in the bottom of the inning with the big blow coming from Marrero, who knocked in two with a double.

St. Joseph's finally recorded their lone base hit in the fourth on a one-out double from Cheryl Zakowski.

Marrero had a monster game, going 2-for-5 with five RBI, while both Jamie Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) and Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) each had two hits.

In the end, the story was Mottau, who went five innings, allowing just the one hit and one earned run.
