EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) belted a three-run homer at the plate and tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout on the mound to help propel Stonehill to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader from Franklin Pierce with an 8-0 opening game triumph, as a complete-game four-hitter by junior Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) lifted the Skyhawks to a 3-0 second game victory in contests played Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field.

Stonehill (8-14, 7-5 Northeast-10) jumped out to a 1-0 first inning lead in the opener on an RBI single by junior Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) and plated two more runs in the fourth on a lead-off home run by sophomore Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) and an RBI single by junior Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.). Mottau's three-run blast highlighted a four-run fifth frame for the hosts, as her round-tripper followed a walk to junior Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) and a Young double, while Rappoli drove in the other run of the inning with a double. Young's second home run of the game, a two-out shot in the sixth, closed out the Skyhawk scoring, and Mottau took care of the rest on the mound for Stonehill, fanning six along the way to improve to 4-5 on the season. Young and Mottau each had three hits as a part of a 12-hit Skyhawk attack in the opener, as Rappoli and sophomore Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) each added a pair of hits for the hosts. Freshman Ashley Stewart (Westmoreland, N.H.) pitched four-plus innings in suffering the setback inside the circle for the visiting Ravens (5-17, 2-10 Northeast-10) in the first contest.

The two teams were scoreless into the sixth inning of the nightcap when Stonehill plated all three of its runs, as an RBI double by Ippolito provided the lone tally the Skyhawks would need. Young plated the second run with a sacrifice fly for her third RBI of the twinbill, and a run-scoring single by sophomore Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.) closed out the frame. Mason scattered four hits and struck out five in going the distance to record the shutout triumph on the mound for Stonehill and pick up her first victory of the spring, as sophomore Elaine Matthews (Roslindale, Mass.) had two hits in the nightcap setback for Franklin Pierce. Sophomore Courtney Jacobs (Fitchburg, Mass.) allowed just one earned run and struck out four in going the distance inside the circle for the Ravens, falling to 5-8 overall on the season.

Stonehill travels to Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday afternoon to take on American International in a Northeast-10 doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Franklin Pierce will host Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 twinbill on Tuesday afternoon in Rindge, N.H. at 3:00 p.m.
