EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, Mass.) rapped out a pair of homers and drove in four runs to lead Bryant to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader of Stonehill by scores of 2-0 in the opener and 12-7 in the nightcap in games played Wednesday afternoon at Gartland Field.

A Wilbur double that was followed by an RBI single off the bat of freshman Ashley Coon (Fairless Hills, Pa.) in the top of the fourth gave the visiting Bulldogs (11-6, 7-1 Northeast-10) the only run they would need in the opener, as an RBI single by junior Jessica Valentini (Cliffside Park, N.J.) in the seventh frame provided some insurance. Coon and seniors Lindsay Connor (West Haven, Conn.) and Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass.) each had two hits in the first contest for Bryant, as junior Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) allowed two hits and fanned seven to improve to 5-3 for the visitors, outdueling freshman Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.), who went the distance in fanning a pair to fall to 3-2 on the season for the host Skyhawks (6-14, 5-5 Northeast-10).

First inning homers off the bats of Connor and Wilbur staked the Bulldogs to an early 2-0 lead in the nightcap, but Stonehill got those runs back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI triple by sophomore Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) that was followed by an RBI single off the bat of junior Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.). Bryant took the lead for good with a six-run outburst in the second, as Wilbur belted a three-run homer that was preceded by a Connor RBI double and a run-scoring single by Gagnon. The Skyhawks crept back to within three at 8-5 with a single run in the fourth on a solo home run by junior Lauren Polselli (Portsmouth, R.I.), her first of the season, and a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI double by sophomore Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) as well as a run-scoring single by sophomore Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.). The Bulldogs iced their triumph with a four-run sixth inning that included a two-run double by sophomore Kate Thomas (Bedford, N.H.), an RBI single by Gagne and a fielder's choice RBI groundout by freshman Alison Chouinard (Swansea, Mass.), and Stonehill closed out the scoring with a pair in the seventh on an RBI double by junior Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) as well as a Young sacrifice fly.

Wilbur, Connor, Gagne, Valentini, Chouinard and senior Briana Durborow (Ringoes, N.J.) each had two hits as part of a 15-hit attack for Bryant in the nightcap triumph, as sophomore Anne Dobmeier (Buffalo, N.Y.) fanned two in going the distance to improve to 2-1 for the Bulldogs. Young finished with three hits and a pair of RBI in the second game setback for Stonehill, which received two hits each from Flanagan and Ippolito as part of a 13-hit attack. Junior Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 doubleheader that has been moved from Rindge, N.H. to Gartland Field on Saturday afternoon beginning at Noon, while Bryant hosts Southern New Hampshire in a Northeast-10 twinbill on Saturday in Smithfield, R.I. at Noon.
