WORCESTER, Mass.-- Sophomore Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) allowed just one hit and fanned five to follow a three-hit complete game shutout by freshman Kait Mendall (Middleboro, Mass.) as Stonehill swept a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader from Assumption by scores of 1-0 in the opener and 16-0 in the nightcap in games played at Holy Cross's Crusader Field.

Mottau carried a no-hitter into the sixth frame of the second contest for the visiting Skyhawks (6-12, 5-3 Northeast-10) in allowing an infield single with two outs in the inning, and she received a 21-hit attack as support to pick up her third victory of the season. Stonehill jumped out to a 2-0 third inning nightcap lead on a two-run double by sophomore Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.) and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles by juniors Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) and Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.). The visitors added two more tallies in the sixth on an error and Rappoli's second RBI single of the contest, and the Skyhawks broke things open with 10 runs in their final at-bat that came on 10 hits. Ippolito belted a three-run homer (her third of the spring) to finish with a career-high four RBI, while junior Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and sophomore Kate Brides (West Bridgewater, Mass.) each added a two-run single and double, respectively. Mottau helped her own cause with an RBI triple as well for Stonehill, which also received an RBI single from sophomore Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.) and a sacrifice fly by Marrero to close out the 10-run inning.

Brides rapped out a career-high four hits in the nightcap for the Skyhawks, who also received three hits each from Folan and Sheehy as well as two hits each from Rappoli, Ippolito, junior Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.), sophomore Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) and Marrero, who drove in three runs in the second game. Junior Lauren Symonick (Northbridge, Mass.) took the setback on the mound for the host Greyhounds (3-17, 1-5 Northeast-10) in the nightcap, as freshman Colleen Conroy (West Haven, Conn.) provided the lone Assumption hit of the second game.

The two teams were scoreless into the late innings of the opener before Flanagan delivered the only run Stonehill would need in the sixth when she plated Rappoli with a sacrifice fly, and Mendall took care of the rest, scattering three hits and striking out a career-high seven to pick up her third win and second shutout of the season. Rappoli and Flanagan each had two hits in the opening game triumph for the Skyhawks, as sophomore Elizabeth Mucica (Tewksbury, Mass.) took the loss on the mound for Assumption in the first contest.
