MANCHESTER, N.H.-- Sophomore Caitlin Flanagan's (Cornwall, N.Y.) two-run double in the fifth inning proved to be the difference as Stonehill gained a split of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader with Saint Anselm on Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 nightcap triumph in a game called after six innings due to darkness at South Athletic Field, as the Hawks took the opener with a pair of runs in the bottom of the 10th under the international tiebreaker for a 6-5 decision.

Flanagan's two RBI two-bagger broke up a scoreless tie in the fifth frame of the nightcap for the visiting Skyhawks (12-9-1, 5-4-1 Northeast-10), as she plated freshman Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y) and sophomore Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) with the winning runs. The host Hawks (10-16, 3-9 Northeast-10) answered back with a run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single by freshman Kaitlyn Maciag (Gales Ferry, Conn.), but that would prove to be all of the scoring, as darkness fell on the proceedings after six innings.

Sophomore Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) had two of Stonehill's seven hits in the nightcap (including a triple), as sophomore Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) picked up her eighth win in 10 decisions for the Skyhawks in relief of freshman Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.), who allowed four hits over the first four innings of work. Freshman Andrea Crocker (Amherst, N.H.) had two of Saint Anselm's six hits in the nightcap, as senior Brigitte June (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) allowed seven hits and fanned six to fall to 5-7 on the mound for the Hawks.

Stonehill jumped out to a 3-0 second inning lead in the opener on an RBI triple by Ippolito, an infield single by freshman Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.) and a fielder's choice groundout by Sheehy, and after Saint Anselm got on the board with an unearned run in the second, the Skyhawks took a 4-1 fifth inning cushion on an RBI single off the bat of freshman Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.). Crocker pulled the Hawks even with a two-run homer in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth, and the game remained tied until the 10th when the international tie-breaker went into effect, as Stonehill took a 5-4 lead on Mottau's RBI groundout before the Hawks tied things on an RBI single by freshman Katherine Theodorou (Glen Cove, N.Y.) and won it on a sacrifice fly by junior Brianna Welenc (Greenfield, Mass.).

Folan collected three of Stonehill's 11 hits in the opener, as the Skyhawks received two hits each from Ippolito, Flanagan and Young. Mottau suffered the setback on the mound for the visitors in relief of sophomore Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.), who worked the first six innings. Crocker and Maciag each had two hits in the opening game triumph for Saint Anselm, as junior Kathleen Golden (Somerset, Mass.) picked up the win with nine relief innings for the Hawks, allowing one earned run and fanning five.

Stonehill hosts Pace in a Northeast-10 twinbill on Thursday afternoon at Gartland Field beginning at Noon, while Saint Anselm hosts Merrimack in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at South Athletic Field beginning at 3:30 p.m.
