EASTON, Mass.-- Freshman Meghan Sheehy's (East Islip, N.Y.) two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh lifted Stonehill to a 5-4 Northeast-10 Conference softball victory over Pace in the opener of a league twinbill Thursday afternoon at Gartland Field, as the Setters used a first inning grand slam off the bat of senior Michelle Brigham (Unionville, N.Y.) to gain a split with a 4-1 triumph in the nightcap.

The host Skyhawks (13-10-1, 6-5-1 Northeast-10), who have already matched their win total of last season, overcame an early 2-0 deficit in the opener by plating the tying runs in the bottom of the third on an error and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.). Stonehill took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI single by junior Kristen Demick (East Hampton, Conn.), but the visiting Setters (11-13, 6-6 Northeast-10) grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run double by sophomore D.J. Ketchel (Staten Island, N.Y.), setting the stage for Sheehy's heroics, as her first collegiate round-tripper followed Folan's lead-off single in the bottom of the frame.

Demick and senior Christine Grenache (Leominster, Mass.) each collected two hits in the win for Stonehill, as sophomore Danielle Mason (Salisbury, mass.) went the distance on the mound for the Skyhawks to improve to 9-2 on the season. Junior Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 in the setback for Pace, which also received two hits from Ketchel. Freshman Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.), who took over in the seventh, took the loss on the mound for the Setters.

Pace plated all the runs it would need in the nightcap in its first four at-bats of the opening inning, as a pair of walks and a Ketchel single loaded the bases for Brigham, who belted her second homer of the spring. Stonehill got on the board in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by freshman Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.), as Shada allowed just four hits (two more by Grenache) and fanned six to pick up the win for the Setters, who received two hits each from Ketchel and freshman Christina Pane (Stony Point, N.Y.) in the nightcap.

Stonehill hosts Bentley in a Northeast-10 twinbill on Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field beginning at Noon, while Pace travels to Springfield, Mass. on Friday afternoon to square off with American International in a league doubleheader that also begins at Noon.
