SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- The Stonehill softball team saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon, as the Skyhawks dropped a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader to Bryant by scores of 10-6 in the opener and 8-0 in the nightcap in games played at the Bryant Softball Complex.

The host Bulldogs (7-11, 6-2 Northeast-10) overcame an early 3-0 deficit in the opener by scoring five runs in the second and adding five more tallies through the middle innings, as a seventh inning rally by the visiting Skyhawks (8-7-1, 1-2-1 Northeast-10) fell short. A two-run single by senior Christine Grenache (Leominster, Mass.), coupled with an RBI double by freshman Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.), staked Stonehill to the early lead, but Bryant took the lead for good in the second, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of senior Jordan Dargon (Trumbull, Conn.), and the hosts added three insurance tallies in the sixth, two of which came on junior Amanda Wilbur's (Lakeville, Mass.) two-run homer, her fourth of the season. Grenache's third RBI of the game, coupled with a two-run double off the bat of freshman Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.), closed out the Skyhawk scoring in the seventh, as Grenache, Young and sophomore Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each had three hits in the opening setback for Stonehill, which also received two hits from Marrero. Sophomore Jessica Valenti (Cliffside Park, N.J.) went 4-for-4 in the opener for Bryant, which also received three hits each from junior Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Jennifer Serrano (Stoneham, Mass.) as part of a 16-hit attack in support of junior Nikki Ingalls (Westford, Mass.), who went 6 2/3 innings and struck out four to pick up the win for the Bulldogs. Freshman Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) allowed five earned runs and fanned three over five innings of work on the mound for Stonehill in falling to 3-2 on the season.

Bryant jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead in the nightcap, highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of freshman Kate Thomas (Bedford, N.H.). The Bulldogs plated two more in the second on a Wilbur RBI triple and Dargon's run scoring single, and the hosts closed out the scoring in the fifth on RBI doubles by sophomores Victoria Duane (West Haven, Conn.) and Michaela Murray (Cumberland, R.I.). Sophomore Jennifer Bernier (Rehoboth, Mass.) allowed two hits (to Stonehill's Folan and freshman Meghan Sheehy (East Islip, N.Y.) ) and struck out four to earn the win on the mound for Bryant, while sophomore Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) allowed five earned runs and fanned a pair over three innings to fall to 5-2 on the season on the mound for the Skyhawks.

Both teams head to Springfield, Mass. over the weekend for Northeast-10 doubleheaders with American International, as Stonehill will face the Yellow Jackets on Sunday afternoon at Noon while Bryant takes on AIC on Saturday afternoon at Noon.
