EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Lisa Castillo's (Lawrence, Mass.) two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh plated the lone run of the contest to lift Assumption to a 1-0 nightcap victory over Stonehill and complete a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field. The Greyhounds took the opener by an 8-6 final.

Castillo's heroics made a winner of junior Caitlin Stazinski (Westboro, Mass.) on the mound for the visiting Greyhounds (24-14, 13-5 Northeast-10), as she tossed a complete-game three-hitter and fanned four to improve to 8-1 on the season. Stazinski hooked up with Stonehill freshman Katie Mottau (Woonsocket, R.I.) in a scoreless duel into the late innings, as Mottau allowed six hits and an unearned run while striking out seven to fall to 6-5 for the host Skyhawks (16-13-1, 9-8-1 Northeast-10). Castillo and junior Stefanie Capone (Lincoln, R.I.) each had two hits in the nightcap triumph for Assumption, while sophomores Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Lauren Polselli (Portsmouth, R.I.), along with freshman Courtney Young (Danvers, Mass.), each collected hits for Stonehill.

The Greyhounds used a six-run third inning in the opener to hold off a late Skyhawk rally, as sophomore Lauren Symonick (Northbridge, Mass.) helped her own cause with a two-run single in a frame that also featured RBI singles by Castillo and Capone as well as bases-loaded walks to juniors Sarah Leary (Seymour, Conn.) and Marybeth Beaudry (Worcester, Mass.). Assumption extended its lead to 8-0 in the fourth on a two-run single off the bat of junior Sarah Taglienti (Walpole, Mass.), but Stonehill sliced that deficit in half with a four-run rally in the bottom of the frame that included a two-run triple by freshman Yesenia Marrero (Brockton, Mass.), a Young RBI single and an RBI groundout by senior Brook Capello (Hanover, Mass.). The Skyhawks closed to within 8-6 in the sixth on Marrero's two-run single, but that was as close as the hosts would come, as Symonick picked up her seventh win on the mound for the Greyhounds with relief help from senior Shalynn Napolitano (Lawrence, Mass.). Capone, Symonick and sophomore Amanda Monge (Reading, Mass.) each had three hits as a part of a 16-hit Assumption attack in the opener, while Marrero drove in a career-high four runs in the setback for Stonehill, which also received two hits from Young. Sophomore Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) went the distance on the mound for the Skyhawks and struck out four to fall to 10-4 on the season.

Stonehill's scheduled Northeast-10 doubleheader with Saint Rose that was to have been played on Sunday afternoon in Albany, N.Y. has already been postponed due to impending inclement weather and has been re-scheduled for Monday, May 1st at 5:00 p.m. The Skyhawks are set to head to Syracuse, N.Y. on Monday afternoon to take on LeMoyne in a league twinbill that begins at 2:00 p.m. Assumption is scheduled to host Pace in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Sunday afternoon in Worcester, Mass. beginning at 1:00 p.m.
