FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Sophomore Tracey Cidlevich (Milton, Mass.) tossed a one-hitter and struck out five as the Stonehill softball team gained a split of its first two contests of the 2005 season with a 1-0 non-league victory over Saint Ambrose in the nightcap of action Sunday afternoon at the Gene Cusic Classic at Terry Park. The Chieftains opened the day by dropping a 4-0 non-league decision to Upper Iowa.

Stonehill (1-1) plated the only run of the nightcap in the bottom of the sixth when freshman Jamie Ludwig (Trumbull, Conn.) singled, advanced to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.). Cidlevich took care of the rest on the mound for the Chieftains, as she carried a no-hitter into the sixth before junior Emily Cueno (East Dubuque, Ill.) rapped a double for the only hit of the day for the Fighting Bees (1-4). Sophomore Meaghan O’Connor (East Taunton, Mass.) and freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) also recorded singles in the nighcap win for Stonehill, as junior Brie Yaksic (Chicago, Ill.) took the loss on the mound for Saint Ambrose.

In the opener against Upper Iowa, junior Angie Weber (Hastings, Minn.) tossed a no-hitter for the Lady Peacocks (1-6), as she struck out 12 Chieftains for the contest. Freshman Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) allowed seven hits and no earned runs in her collegiate debut for Stonehill, as she fanned two in the setback.

Stonehill continues play at the Gene Cusic Classic on Monday evening, as the Chieftains square off with Geneva (Ill.) at 6:30 p.m. before taking on Aquinas (Mich.) at 8:30 p.m. at Terry Park.
