EASTON, Mass.-- Freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) rapped out four hits as Stonehill used a pair of late inning rallies to sweep a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader from Saint Anselm by scores of 5-4 in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap in contests played at Gartland Field.

The host Chieftains (4-13, 3-5 Northeast-10) trailed 4-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh in the opener, but Folan began a one-out rally with a single and advanced to second on an error. Freshman Lauren Rappoli’s (Wilmington, Mass.) double then plated Folan with the tying run, and freshman Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) followed with the winning run on a second error by the visiting Hawks (8-9, 5-3 Northeast-10). Folan collected three hits the opening game triumph for Stonehill, which received a pair of RBI from freshman Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.), including her first career home run, as freshman Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) went the distance and struck out two to pick up her first collegiate victory on the mound for the Chieftains.

Freshman Jessica Wilson (Billerica, Mass.) posted two hits and drove in a pair of runs in the opening game setback for Saint Anselm, while junior Julie Pistorino (Abington, Mass.) added two hits, including her second round tripper of the season. Sophomore Jaclyn Kinsman (Tewksbury, Mass.) took the loss in relief on the mound for the Hawks, allowing three unearned runs in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Stonehill took a 1-0 fourth inning lead in the nightcap when junior Brook Capello (Hanover, Mass.) scored on an error, but Saint Anselm evened matters in the fifth when freshman Amy Laverty (Old Saybrook, Conn.). That trend continued in the bottom of the sixth when Flanagan walked and came around to score on an two-out Hawk error that proved to be the decisive tally.

Junior Christine Grenache (Leominster, Mass.) recorded a pair of hits in the nightcap triumph for Stonehill, as freshman Jessica Sachse (East Williston, N.Y.) picked up her second straight victory with a complete-game three-hitter, as she allowed an unearned run and fanned two. Wilson collected two of Saint Anselm’s three hits in the second outing, as junior Brigitte June (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) allowed five hits and no earned runs while striking out six in taking the setback on the mound for the Hawks.

Stonehill hosts Franklin Pierce in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Gartland Field beginning at Noon, while Saint Anselm travels to Syracuse, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon to square off with LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 twinbill that begins at Noon.
