EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Kristen Demick (East Hampton, Conn.) capped a two-out, three-run Stonehill rally in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run double to earn a 4-3 victory and a split on the day in a non-league softball match-up with Dowling on Tuesday afternoon at Gartland Field.

Trailing 3-1 with two outs and nobody on in the seventh inning, junior Brook Capello (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) each slapped singles to put the tying run on base for host Stonehill (12-20-1). An error by the Golden Lions, set up Demick’s heroics, as she drove a pitch to the centerfield fence to score the tying and winning-runs. Vivona recorded two hits on the day, as well as her first collegiate victory on the mound, as she allowed three runs on 10 hits and struck out three.

Dowling took the early lead with a two-run fourth inning, but Stonehill answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, as freshman Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) recorded her third career home run. The Golden Lions added another on an RBI single by graduate Kristin Rivers (Farmingville, N.Y.) to take a 3-1 advantage before the Chieftain comeback.

In the first game, sophomore Jackie Rogers (Alta Loma, Calif.) earned the win on the mound for Dowling, throwing a complete-game four-hitter and fanned six as the visiting Golden Lions (27-16) collected 14 hits on the game. Sophomore Kristy Kobel (Blue Point, N.Y.) notched three hits and two RBI, while four other players collected a pair of hits on the game.

Freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) collected three hits on the day for Stonehill, while senior Nicole Pichette (Exeter, R.I.) and Flanagan each recorded two. Freshman Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) went the distance on the mound for the Chieftains in the first game and takes the loss, while senior Crystal Freyer (Babylon, N.Y.) did the same for the Dowling in the nightcap.

Stonehill returns to Northeast-10 play as they travel to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael’s in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m., while the Golden Lions travels to Lowell, Mass. tomorrow to take on UMass Lowell in a non-league doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m.
