GAME #2 FINAL: SAINT JOSEPH’S (IND.) 2, STONEHILL 0

FORT MYERS, Fla.-- The Stonehill softball team wrapped up play at the Gene Cusic Classic on Friday morning by dropping a pair of non-league decisions to Bridgeport (3-1) and Saint Joseph’s (Ind.) (2-0) in contests played at Cape Coral Field.

Freshman Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) was a tough-luck loser on the mound in the opener for the Chieftains against Bridgeport, as she carried a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning courtesy of an RBI single by senior Kate McAuley (Franklin, Mass.). The Purple Knights used a three-run homer in the sixth to claim their second victory of the week over Stonehill, as Bridgeport had previously notched a 10-5 triumph on Tuesday morning.

In the nighcap, sophomore Tracey Cidlevich (Milton, Mass.) pitched well once again for the Chieftains in suffering the setback on the mound, as she allowed just six earned runs on the week. The Pumas gained the second win in less than 24 hours over Stonehill, as Saint Joseph’s posted a 6-5 eight-inning triumph over the Chieftains on Thursday afternoon.

Stonehill, which stands at 1-8 overall on the season following competition at the Gene Cusic Classic, begins its Northeast-10 Conference schedule on Wednesday, March 30th when the Chieftains entertain Bryant in a league twinbill at Gartland Field beginning at 3:00 p.m.
