WALTHAM, Mass.-- Freshman Jessica Sachse (East Williston, N.Y.) tossed a complete-game one-hit shutout for her first collegiate victory as Stonehill gained a split of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with rival Bentley by taking a 7-0 decision in the nightcap in contests played at Bentley Field. Bentley used a five-run fourth inning to take a 6-4 decision in the opener.

Sachse allowed only a first inning single in fanning one to notch the win on the mound for the visiting Chieftains (2-13, 1-5 Northeast-10), as Stonehill grabbed a 2-0 second inning lead on a fielder’s choice RBI by freshman Jamie Ludwig (Trumbull, Conn.) and a sacrifice fly by freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.). The Chieftains added a single run in the sixth on an RBI triple by junior Brook Capello (Hanover, Mass.) and plated three more insurance tallies in the seventh on a pair of RBI groundouts by senior Nicole Pichette (Exeter, R.I.) and freshman Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) as well as a throwing error. Freshman Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) collected three of Stonehill’s 10 hits in the nightcap triumph, as Sachse recorded 15 ground ball outs in her win.

Sophomore Allison Ciummei (Acton, Mass.) recorded the lone hit of the nightcap for the host Falcons (3-7, 1-1 Northeast-10), as sophomore Sarah Sabo (Providence, R.I.) allowed just four earned runs and struck out two in taking the loss for Bentley.

The two teams traded early single runs in the opener before the Falcons plated five in the decisive fourth, as an RBI double by senior Jennifer Picardo (Medfield, Mass.) coupled with RBI singles off the bat of seniors Lisa Tisbert (Andover, Mass.) and Lisa Lukiewski (Westford, Mass.) fueled the rally. Stonehill used a three-run triple by Pichette in the sixth to close to within two, but that was a close as the visitors would come, as Tisbert and freshman Diane Morrison (Massapequa, N.Y.) each had two of the Falcons’ eight hits in the opener to back a complete-game effort on the mound by sophomore Maureen McGinn (St. Albans, Vt.). Freshman Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) allowed just one earned run in 5 1/3 innings of work in suffering the setback on the mound for Stonehill.

Stonehill hosts Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Gartland Field beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Bentley heads to Lowell, Mass. on Thursday afternoon to take on UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 twinbill that begins at 3:00 p.m.
