WORCESTER, Mass.-- Freshmen Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) and Jaime Ippolito (Chelsea, Mass.) each drove in a pair of runs as Stonehill scored five times in its final two at-bats to post a 6-3 nightcap victory over Assumption and gain a split of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at WPI Field. The host Greyhounds took the opener by a 3-1 final.

The visiting Chieftains (7-16, 6-8 Northeast-10) used an RBI single by freshman Caitlin Flanagan (Cornwall, N.Y.) and Ippolito’s run scoring double in the sixth to snap a 1-1 tie and take the lead for good, and Stonehill added three key insurance tallies in the seventh on a suicide squeeze by freshman Gina Vivona (Seaford, N.Y.) that was followed by Rappoli’s two run double. The host Greyhounds (7-12, 3-6 Northeast-10) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by sophomore Sarah Taglienti (Walpole, Mass.) and an RBI groundout by junior Tania Palumbo (Worcester, Mass.) but got no closer, as freshman Jessica Sachse (East Williston, N.Y.) picked up her fourth win of the season on the mound for Stonehill in going the distance and striking out three. Freshman Lauren Polselli (Portsmouth, R.I.) joined Rappoli and Flanagan with two hits each in the nightcap triumph for the Chieftains, who rapped out eight hits in the second contest. Sophomores Stefanie Capone (Lincoln, R.I.) and Sandra Denman (Charlton, Mass.) each had two hits in the second game setback for Assumption, as junior Shalynn Napolitano (Lawrence, Mass.) took the loss in relief on the mound for the Greyhounds.

Napolitano picked up the win in the opener for Assumption in allowing just four hits and an unearned run while fanning six, as freshman Korina Salafia (Leominster, Mass.) collected a pair of hits, including her second home run of the spring, and drove in a pair of runs. Stonehill scored its lone run in the fourth when Rappoli singled, advanced to second on an error, reached third on a groundout and then stole home, as she, Ippolito and senior Nicole Pichette (Exeter, R.I.) each recorded hits in the opening contest for the visitors. Sophomore Tracey Cidlevich (Milton, Mass.) allowed seven hits and fanned three in going the distance on the mound for the Chieftains in the opening game setback.

Stonehill hosts Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 twinbill on Sunday afternoon at Gartland Field beginning at Noon, while Assumption travels to Briarcliff, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon to take on Pace in a Northeast-10 doubleheader that begins at 1:00 p.m.
