EASTON, Mass.-- Sophomore Morgan Larson (Queensbury, N.Y.) drove in a pair of runs in the opener and tossed a complete-game five-hit shutout in the nightcap to lift American International to a sweep of a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader from Stonehill by scores of 8-0 in the opener and 1-0 in the nightcap in games played Sunday afternoon at Gartland Field.

The visiting Yellow Jackets (14-28, 10-18 Northeast-10) jumped out to a 7-0 first inning lead in the opener, taking advantage of a pair of errors, three walks and a two-run double by junior Nicole Siciliano (Enfield, Conn.) to plate seven unearned runs. Morgan’s RBI single in the second capped the American International scoring, as senior Nikki Matisi (Endicott, N.Y.) allowed just one hit and fanned four over five innings to pick up her fourth win of the season on the mound for the visitors. Freshman Lauren Rappoli (Wilmington, Mass.) accounted for the lone hit of the opener for the host Chieftains (13-25-1, 11-16-1 Northeast-10) with a fourth inning single, as freshman Danielle Mason (Salisbury, Mass.) allowed four hits and one earned run in suffering the setback on the mound for Stonehill.

Sophomore Brittany Provost’s (Delanson, N.Y.) RBI single in the top of the first of the nightcap would prove to be the only run that Larson would need, as she allowed five hits and struck out five for her seventh win of the season for the Yellow Jackets. Provost collected four of American International’s hits in the second contest, as freshman Jessica Sachse (East Williston, N.Y.) was a tough-luck loser on the mound for the Chieftains, as she went the distance in falling to 6-6 on the season. Freshman Stephanie Folan (Glen Cove, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 as part of a five-hit Stonehill attack in the nightcap.

Stonehill wrapped up its season with the twinbill, as the Chieftains posted their highest win total both overall and in league play in four seasons this spring. American International concludes its season on Wednesday afternoon with a non-league doubleheader at Bridgeport.
