Men’s Cross Country Finishes Eighth at New England Championship

Taxter earns sixth-career All-New England honor, second for cross country

DORCHESTER, Massachusetts (October 12, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, who is ranked No. 4 in the East Regional U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) week four rankings, finished eighth out of 25 teams at the New England Championships Saturday at Franklin Park.

Providence College led the way for the team race as they totaled 42 points, as Northeastern University totaled 75 points for second place and the University of Massachusetts Amherst rounded out the top three with 168 points. Stonehill was the first Division II team across the finish line as they totaled 205 points for eighth place, followed by Northeast-10 Conference foe American International College with 221 points.

Senior All-American Lucas Taxter was the lone Skyhawk to earn All-New England honors with his 11th-place finish. This is the seniors' sixth-career All-New England recognition and second award for cross country, as he clocked in a time of 25:04 in the eight-kilometer race.

Sophomore Nickolas McNamee took home a top 30 result as he finished 30th out of 170 competitors with his time of 25:43. Junior Jeff Pichie was the next Purple & White across the finish line as he placed 35th overall with a time of 25:49.

Freshman Reilly Johnston, in his first New England Championship appearance, finished 64th, immediately followed by junior Kevin Wheelock who took home 65th place. Johnston clocked in at 26:11 and Wheelock finished in 26:13.

The Skyhawks will continue the championship season as they compete in the NE10 Championships on Sunday, October 20 at Jamesville Beach State Park in Jamesville, New York hosted by Le Moyne College.
