Men’s Cross Country Claims Second Title of the Season at Kutztown DII/III Challenge

Dowd took the individual title, followed by Murphy

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 16, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked second in the East Region and received votes in the national rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, finished first at the Kutztown DII/III Challenge in Kutztown, Pennsylvania Saturday morning.

The Skyhawks totaled 29 points at the event, while Shippensburg University placed second with 48 points and Malone University finished third with 53 points. Lock Haven University took fourth with 132 points, as Kutztown University rounded out the top five with 184 points.

Junior Riley Dowd (Peabody, Massachusetts/Peabody Veterans Memorial) took the men's individual title in the eight-kilometer race clocking in at 26:28.0, while senior Jimmy Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) followed him with a time of 26:31.0, good for second place.

Kenny Vinacco (Scituate, Rhode Island/Scituate) and Alexander Demeule (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) placed sixth and seventh, respectively. Vinacco finished the race with a time of 26:45.0, while Demeule followed five seconds late clocking in at 26:50.0. Christopher Drace (Franklin, New Jersey/Pope Jersey XXIII) rounded out the Skyhawks who scored points, as he crossed the finish line 13th with a time of 27:09.0.

Lucas Taxter (Readville, Massachusetts/Xaverian Brothers) and Sam Bradford (Bedford, Massachusetts/Bedford) were the final Stonehill competitors to cross the line, finishing 17th and 18th, respectively. Taxter recorded a time of 27:13.0, while Bradford was one second behind with a time of 27:14.0.

Stonehill will race in the Codfish Bowl on Saturday, September 23 at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
