No. 24 Men’s Cross Country Race to Shacklette Invitational Title

Bradford and Wheelock finish first and second

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 2, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked 24th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, tallied its first title of the season at the Shacklette Invitational, Saturday morning, in Manchester, New Hampshire.
 
The Skyhawks tallied 24 points for the first-place mark, as Northeast-10 Conference foe Merrimack College followed in second place with 45 points. Assumption College took third place with 66 points, and Bentley University and Saint Anselm College rounded out the top-five teams collecting 84 and 147 points, respectively. Saint Michael's College and NHTI, Concord's Community College finished sixth (190 points) and seventh (206 points), respectively.

Senior Sam Bradford (Bedford, Massachusetts/Bedford) was the first Skyhawk across the finish line as he captured his first title with a time of 26:48 in the 10-kilometer race hosted by Saint Anselm College, as freshman Kevin Wheelock (Melrose, Massachusetts/Melrose) was neck-and-neck with Bradford, as he took second place. Senior Alex Southiere (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Cumberland) followed the tie taking third place with a time of 27:04 out-running NE10 foes from Merrimack, Assumption, and Bentley

Junior John Onken (Holbrook, New York/Sachem North) wasn't far behind one through three, as he captured eighth place with a time of 27:27. Classmate Christopher Drace (Franklin, New Jersey/Pope John XXIII) finished two seconds after Onken with a time of 27:29, good for 10th place.

The final two Skyhawks that crossed the finish line were sophomore Chris Gendron (Lowell, Massachusetts/Lowell) in 32nd place, clocking in at 28:34, and freshman Joe Gill (Raynham, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) who took 33rd marking a time of 28:48.

Stonehill travels to Kutztown, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 16 the Division II/III Challenge hosted by Kutztown University.
