#20 Men's Cross Country Finishes Sixth At Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup

Senior Dan Gordon finished 44th overall with a time of 16:45.9 

Freshman Steve Scala paces Skyhawks with 26th place finish in 16:24.6

HOPKINTON, N.H. (October 16, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked No. 20 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Poll, ran to a sixth-place finish earlier today at the Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup, held at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, site of the 2015 East Regional Championships.

Freshman Steve Scala (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) led Stonehill with his 26th place finish in 16:24.6 on the five-kilometer course, marking the first time this season he has been the first Skyhawk to cross the finish line. Scala posted the fifth-best finish among all freshmen.

Senior Daniel Gordon (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) registered a time of 16:45.9, good for 44th overall, while classmate Robert Massey (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) placed 45th and clocked in at 16:46.3. Junior Joseph Santo (Newburyport, Massachusetts/Newburyport) came in just 1.1 seconds after Massey with a time of 16:47.4, which placed him in 46th.

Sophomore Alex Southiere (Cumberland, Rhode Island/Cumberland) followed Santo with a 51st place effort, posting a time of 16:55.3, while freshman Larry Carney (Lowell, Massachusetts/Lowell), junior Antonio Xelhua (Arlington,Massachusetts/Arlington) and freshman Riley Dowd (Peabody, Massachusetts/Peabody Veterans Memorial) finished 59th, 60th and 61st, respectively, with marks of 17:03.2, 17:03.5 and 17:06.9.

Junior Tyler Henseler (Coventry, Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken) placed 66th in 17:11.8, while freshman's Alexander Demeule (Merrimac, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) and John Onken (Holbrook, New York/Sachem North) finished 67th and 68th with times of 17:12.2 and 17:12.5.

Junior Adam Rego (Rumford, Rhode Island/La Salle Academy), who finished first among all Stonehill competitors at the Ted Owen Invitational, came in 69th place with a time of 17:13.1. Sophomore James Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) was the next Skyhawk to cross the finish line in 75th place with a time of 17:19.8.

Rounding out Stonehill's participants today were freshman Chris Drace (Franklin, New Jersey/Pope John XXIII) and junior Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford). Drace placed 76th in 17:20.3, followed by Nolan (87th in 17:37.0).

Stonehill will be back in action next weekend when they'll look for their fourth Northeast-10 Conference Championship in the past five years, in Colchester, Vermont, hosted by Saint Michael's College.
