#22 Men's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at Ted Owen Invitational


Junior Adam Rego turned in an 18th-place finish in 27:57.9 as Stonehill placed fourth at the Ted Owen Invitational today.

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (September 26, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked No. 22 in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Poll, ran to a fourth-place finish earlier today at the Ted Owen Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut State University at Stanley Park in New Britain, Connecticut.

Competing in a ten-team field that included four Division I programs and four Division II teams, Stonehill placed all five of its scoring runners inside the top-25 on its way to a score of 102. Host Central Connecticut took the team title with a score of 32, while Hartford University (55) and Marist College (69) rounded out the top three. Stonehill was the top finishing squad among Division II programs, as fellow Northeast-10 Conference member the University of New Haven, Queens College, and Dowling College placed eighth, ninth and tenth, respectively.

Junior Adam Rego (Rumford, Rhode Island/La Salle Academy) paced the Skyhawks, completing the eight-kilometer course in 27:55.3, good for 18th overall out of 84 competitors.

Sophomore Jimmy Murphy (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) followed Rego in 19th place with a time of 27:57.9, while junior Tyler Henseler (Coventry, Rhode Island/Bishop Hendricken) finished 21st in 28:05.8.

Rounding out Stonehill's five scoring runners were junior Daniel Nolan (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) and freshman Christopher Drace (Franklin, New Jersey/Pope John XXIII), who placed 24th and 25th, respectively, with times of 28:11.2 and 28:13.3.

Freshman Steve Scala (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) was the final Skyhawk to cross the finish line, doing so in 28:40.5, good for 40th overall.

Stonehill will be off next weekend before returning to action on Saturday, October 10th at the New England Championships, to be held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
