McGee Earns NE-10 Rookie Of The Week Honors

Westford, Mass. native placed 164th in 26:20.29 at New England Championships

EASTON, Mass. (October 14, 2014) – Stonehill College freshman Dillon McGee (Westford, Massachusetts/Westford Academy) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Rookie of the Week for men's cross country, it was announced today by the league office.

McGee earns this honor for the first time in his career following his 164th place finish in 26:20.29 at Saturday's New England Championships, held at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Massachusetts. McGee was the third Skyhawk to cross the finish line, doing so less than four seconds after senior Paul Cina. Stonehill placed 28th as a team, finishing with 830 points in a field of 39 that contained the region's top programs from all three divisions.

McGee has been the first Skyhawk freshman to finish in all four meets this season. The Westford, Massachusetts native opened his career in impressive fashion, turning in a fifth-place effort in 27:31.9 at the eight-kilometer Shacklette Invitational on September 6th.

He followed that up by placing 22nd overall with a time of 26:51.1 at the Division II/Division III Challenge on September 13th, helping the Skyhawks to their second consecutive runner-up finish. On October 4th, McGee led five Stonehill entries in the Paul Short Collegiate Invitational "open" race, placing 67th overall with a time of 26:19.

A 2014 graduate of Westford Academy, McGee competed in both cross country and track & field for the Grey Ghosts. He earned Dual County League (DCL) All-Star honors as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and qualified for the state cross country meet his final two years.

Stonehill, ranked No. 23 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II poll, and ranked No. 3 in the USTFCCCA East Region Poll, is back in action this weekend at the Gates Farm Northeast-10 Preview Meet, hosted by Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire.
