#20 Stonehill Takes Shacklette Invitational

Skyhawks freshman Daniel Gordon finishes second overall

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 10, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's cross country team, ranked 20th overall in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) Division II preseason poll, finished with 24 points overall to win the 30th annual Shacklette Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Skyhawks placed six of their seven runners in the top-10 claiming 24 points while Merrimack finished second with 70 points and Assumption third (80 points). Macky Lloyd (Voorheesville, N.Y./Voorheesville) of Saint Rose claimed individual honors with a time of 26:09.1

Freshman Daniel Gordon (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth) led Stonehill with a second place finish overall covering the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes and 58.5 seconds.

Gordon was followed by teammates Zachary Bagan (Syracuse, N.Y./East Longmeadow), Bryan Wilcox (Plantsville, Conn./Southington), Seamus McEvoy (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and Timothy Johnson (Thomaston, Conn./Thomaston) who took spots 4-7, respectively, to round out the Skyhawks top-5 scorers.

Finishing as a pack, Bagan cruised to a 27:07.9 finish while Wilcox (27:08.2) and McEvoy (27:08.6) finished slightly behind in fifth and sixth place. Johnson, securing the seventh spot overall, ran a time of 27:32.2.

Stonehill returns to action on Friday, September 16 at the National Catholic Championships hosted by the University of Notre Dame (South Bend, Ind.) at 3:30 p.m.
