Waller Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Andover, Mass., native collects third weekly honor of the year 

EASTON, Mass. (December 7, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman Scott Waller (Andover, Mass./Andover) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week for men's cross country by the league office today.

Waller earned the award for the third time this season after leading all Northeast-10 freshmen and finishing tenth among first year runners overall at Saturday's NCAA Division II Championships in Louisville, Ky. He completed the ten-kilometer course in 33:36.4 to finish 124th overall at the event and fourth on the team as Stonehill placed 21st as a team.

Waller, who also collected NE-10 Rookie of the Week honors on October 5th and 26th, earned All-Northeast-10 third team honors with his 16th place finish at the NE-10 Championships in November with his time of 25:46.3 (8K) as Stonehill placed second. He was 30th at the NCAA East Regional two weeks later with his time of 32:49 (10K).

Waller helped Stonehill to a second place team finish at the Kutztown Division II Challenge in October with a 22nd place finish in 26:53 (8K). He helped the Skyhawks to team titles at both the Trinity Bantams Invitational and Quinnipiac Invitational in September, finishing eighth (out of 82 runners) at Trinity with a time of 16:30 (5K) and was 17th at Quinnipiac with a time of 28:02 (8K).

Stonehill, ranked 21st in the final regular season U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USFCCCA) Division II poll, completed its season with its 21st place finish at Saturday's NCAA Championships, marking its eighth-straight trip to nationals. The Skyhawks turned in second place finishes at the East Regional and NE-10 Championships this season.
