Patrick Fullerton

Fullerton collects Athlete of the Week honors for first time this season
Waller named Rookie of the Week for second time

EASTON, Mass. (October 28, 2010) – Two members of the Stonehill College men's cross country team have been recognized with weekly accolades from the Northeast-10 Conference this week. Senior All-New England performer Patrick Fullerton (Bradford, Mass./Haverhill) has been named Athlete of the Week in the Conference, while freshman Scott Waller (Andover, Mass./Andover) earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Fullerton earns cross country Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his two seasons at Stonehill after setting a course record with his time of 25:35 over eight kilometers to win the individual title at Saturday's Kutztown Division II Challenge, hosted by Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. He led the No. 20-ranked Skyhawks to a second place team finish at the event behind just 6th-ranked Shippensburg University – first among the top East Region programs at the event.

Saturday marked Fullerton's third top ten finish of the year and second in a row after he placed tenth at the New England Championships two weeks prior to earn All-New England honors with his time of 24:48 over 8K. His other top ten finish came with his second place finish at the Trinity Bantams Invitational on September 11 with a time of 15:54 over 5K.

Scott Waller

Fullerton, an All-East Region and All-NE-10 performer in 2009 after transferring to Stonehill from Iona College, was an NCAA Championships qualifier in the 1500-meters in outdoor track last spring. He also posted three top ten finishes for cross country.

Waller earns Rookie of the Week honors from the NE-10 for the second time this season after helping Stonehill to the second place team finish at the Kutztown Division II Challenge on Saturday. He finished 22nd overall (out of 85 runners) at the event with his time of 26:53 over 8K. Waller was third among freshman competing at the event and first among NE-10 and East Region freshmen.

Waller also collected Rookie of the Week honors after finishing 215th out of 387 runners in the "Gold Race" of the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on October 1. He completed the 8K course in 26:02 to finish 14th among Division II runners at the meet and 33rd overall among freshmen. He has competed in four of five events for Stonehill in his first collegiate season. He helped the Skyhawks to team titles at both the Trinity Bantams Invitational and Quinnipiac Invitational last month. Waller placed eighth (out of 82 runners) at Trinity with a time of 16:30 over five kilometers and was 17th (out of 34) at Quinnipiac with a time of 28:02 over 8K.

Stonehill, ranked 20th in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II rankings and second in the East Region, is off this weekend before returning to action on Sunday, November 7, when it hosts the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Championship at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks will be looking to defend their NE-10 title and capture their fifth title overall.
