Pilz named NE-10 Athlete of
the Week for first time in career
Waller collects first NE-10 Rookie of the Week award
EASTON, Mass. (October 5, 2010) – Two members of the Stonehill College men's cross country team earned weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference this afternoon. Senior captain Daniel Pilz (Newington, Conn./Newington) earned Athlete of the Week honors for the first time in his career, while freshman Scott Waller (Andover, Mass./Andover) collected his first Rookie of the Week award.
Pilz led Stonehill to a 28th-place finish (out of 42 programs) in the "Gold Race" of Friday's Lehigh-Brooks-Paul Short Run as he placed 71st out of 387 runners overall. The "Gold Race" consisted of top Division I and II teams from across the country and Pilz completed the eight-kilometer course in 25:03. He finished fifth among Division II runners at the event.
Pilz has competed in two of the three meets Stonehill has participated in this fall. He led the Skyhawks to the team title at last month's Quinnipiac Invitational when he placed third out of 34 runners with a time of 27:03 in the eight-kilometer run.

Pilz is a two-time second-team All-Northeast-10 performer, collecting the honors as a junior with a tenth place finish in helping lead Stonehill to its fourth NE-10 Championship last fall – the second in his career at the College. He also earned that status his sophomore year with his 13th place showing at the NE-10 Championships.
Waller placed 215th out of the 387 runners in the "Gold Race" at Friday's Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. He completed the 8K course in 26:02 to finish 14th among Division II runners at the meet and 33rd overall among freshmen.
Waller has competed in all three events for Stonehill in his first collegiate season. He helped the Skyhawks to team titles at both the Trinity Bantams Invitational and Quinnipiac Invitational last month. Waller placed eighth (out of 82 runners) at Trinity with a time of 16:30 over five kilometers and was 17th (out of 34) at Quinnipiac with a time of 28:02 over 8K.
Stonehill, ranked 19th in the most U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II national poll and first in the USTFCCCA East Regional rankings, is back in action on Saturday when it opens its championship season at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Dorchester at 1:30 p.m.
