The Bronx, N.Y. - After relinquishing the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional title a year ago, the Stonehill men's cross country team captured the 2007 title with an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon at Van Cortland Park.

The Skyhawks (40 points), who tied for the Northeast-10 title with UMass-Lowell at the conference championship meet two weeks ago, edged out the RiverHawks (44 points) after getting four runners to finish in the top 10.

Seniors David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the way for Stonehill, as they finished right behind one another in fourth and fifth place respectively, with times of 32:17 and 32:28 over the 6.21 mile course.

Freshman Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass.) had the best freshman performance of the day, completing the race in 32:37, good for seventh place.

Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) rounded out the top ten, with a time of 32:53, while the final scoring runner for the Skyhawks, Matt Meagher (Mansfield, Mss.) placed 14th at 33:08.

All five Skyhawk runners earn NCAA All-Region honors.

New York Institute of Technology sophomore Evans Kigen was the event's winner with a time of 31:56.

With the win, Stonehill advances to the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships in Joplin, Mo., on November 17, hosted by Missouri Southern.
