Northeast-10 Release

North Easton, Mass. - Three members of the Stonehill cross country program have been named to the Northeast-10 Academic All-Conference squads the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Joseph Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Kristina Coriaty (Brockton, Mass.) were named to their respective first teams, while Andrea Topalis (Simsbury, Conn.) earned second team recognition.

To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale); and 3) completed at least one academic year at his/her current institution. The Northeast-10 All-Academic Teams are chosen by a vote of the Northeast-10 Sports Information Directors.

Ryan has had a remarkable conclusion to his collegiate career, having earned first-team All-Northeast-10 by virtue of his fifth place finish at the conference championship meet and picking up All-New England and All-Region honors along the way. A senior captain, Ryan is a History major with a 3.82 grade point average.

Coriaty, meanwhile, has had a monster bounce back junior campaign after injury riddled freshman and sophomore seasons. A Communications and English major, she was twice named Northeast-10 runner of the week during the season. A first place finish at the Connecticut College Invitational buoyed a season that has seen Coriaty earn first-team Northest-10 honors with a third place finishes at both the conference championship and the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship.

Topalis is only one of five sophomores on either the men's or women's side to earn all-academic distinction. An Education Studies and English major, she joins St. Michael's Lauren Fereshetian as the only female sophomores. A 12th place finish at the conference championships earned her second team All-Northeast-10.

All three will be competing at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Joplin, Mo. on Saturday.
