Skyhawk Men and Women Sit Atop Preseason Poll

New Orleans, La. - The Stonehill men's and women's cross country teams sit atop the Division II Northeast Region preseason polls it was announced today by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Skyhawk men are led by Keith Gill (Brockton, Mass.) and Dave Metzger (Ellington, Conn.), who finished third and fourth respectively at the 2006 Northeast Regional meet. Stonehill finished tenth at last year's Division II cross country national meet. 

One the women's side the Skyhawks are followed by Bentley and UMass-Lowell. Stonehill won last year's Northeast Regional title, their sixth in seven seasons, en route to a 17th place finish at the D-II nationals.  The Skyhawks will have to replace an All-American in Kelly Chaisson but return several standouts, including junior Jackie Oates (Easton, Mass.) and senior Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.).

The Skyhawks open their 2007 season at the Fordham Invite on Saturday, Sept. 8th.
