BOSTON, Mass.-- Stonehill College captured its first-ever NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Mens Cross Country championship on Sunday afternoon in convincing fashion at Franklin Park, as the Skyhawks had all five of their scorers in the top 10 to record a team score of 30 points and best runner-up and defending regional champion UMass Lowell by a 34-point margin, as the River Hawks posted a team score of 64 points.

The sophomore trio of Khalid Abdi (Brockton, Mass.), David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) finished third, fourth and fifth for Stonehill in the 10K championship race, respectively, with times of 31:47, 31:49 and 31:53. Senior T.J. Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was next in eighth place for the Skyhawks with a time of 32:02, while sophomore Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) closed out the scoring by placing 10th with a time of 32:12. Junior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) joined Abdi, Metzger, Gerry, Smith and Ryan in earning NCAA all-Northeast regional honors, as he finished 12th on the day with a time of 32:14.

Stonehill Head Coach Karen Boen was named by her peers as the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Coach of the Year, as she has copped the honor on five occasions on the womens side before earning her first award on the mens side today.

Bentleys Ryan Agnew took top individual honors on the day with a time of 31:32 in leading the Falcons to a third place team score (96 points), while Southern Connecticut (99 points) and LIU-C.W. Post (155 points) rounded out the top five team performances. LIU-C.W. Posts Max Collado joined Agnew in earning a trip to the NCAA national championships as the top two individual performers.

Stonehill, which won its second straight Northeast-10 Conference championship on October 23rd with a five-point victory over UMass Lowell, earned its third straight trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships, which will take place on Saturday, November 19th at Cal Poly-Pomona. The Skyhawks will be joined by the River Hawks as the team representatives from the Northeast Region, as Stonehills best finish at the NCAA championships came two years ago with a 12th place team performance.
