Newman leads three double-winners for Skyhawks

WORCESTER, Mass. (September 30, 2021) – Stonehill College posted a 7-2 victory over Clark University in a non-conference men's tennis match at Corash Tennis Courts this evening. 

Highlights

  • Fifth-year Trent Newman, junior Luke Nickerson and sophomore Louis Coppi were all double winners to lead the way for Stonehill.
  • Junior Dariy Vykhodstev was a double-winner to lead the way for Clark with wins at No. 1 singles and doubles.
  • Juniors Christian Duffy and Ben Simmons also posted singles wins for Stonehill.

How it Happened

  • Stonehill opened by winning two of the three doubles matches as Coppi and freshman Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé posted an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Newman and Nickerson breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 3.
  • Coppi put Stonehill's first singles win on the board with a straight sets sweep of Clark junior Sam Pomann at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Simmons followed with a sweep of Joshua Ofosu-Amoani at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
  • Newman clinched the match win for Stonehill with his 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles against freshman Ryan Hovey.
  • Nickerson and Duffy closed the match out for Stonehill with their straight sets wins at No. 5 and No. 2 singles, respectively, while Vykhodtsev held off Duhil de Bénazé in a third set tiebreaker for a 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 victory at No. 1.
