Men's Tennis Opens Spring with Clark Win, 6-1

White leads Skyhawks double-winners at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles

EASTON, Mass. (February 9, 2020) – Stonehill College opened its spring schedule with a 6-1 victory over Clark University in non-conference men's tennis action inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon. 

How it Happened

  • Junior Russell White led four double-winners for Stonehill by posting wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Senior Samuel Miller and sophomores Vincent Huynh and Juan Camilo Riano Rojas rounded out the double-winners in the match for the Skyhawks.
  • White and Miller led a Stonehill sweep of the three doubles matches to earn the Skyhawks first point, posting a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles. White followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles against Clark junior Christian Ruebens, while Miller breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against sophomore Max Schweitzer.
  • Huynh teamed up with freshman Christian Duffy for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles and then Huynh added a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Clark freshman Dariy Vykhodtsev at No. 4 singles.
  • Riano Rojas rounded out Stonehill's double-winners, starting with a 6-4 decision at No. 3 doubles, along with senior Manu Ravichandrakumar. Riano Rojas followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles against senior Jack Han.
  • Senior Aaron Diamond also picked up a point for the Skyhawks with his 8-4 win at No. 6 singles.
  • Junior Nicholas Mathieu earned Clark's lone point by rallying from a set down against Duffy for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (4-0, 0-0 NE10) is back in action in two weeks, when it hosts Wheaton (Mass.) College for another non-conference match inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Clark (2-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) visits Vassar College next Sunday at noon.
