Newman leads four double-winners for Skyhawks at No. 1 singles and doubles

EASTON, Mass. (September 17, 2019) – Stonehill College cruised to a 7-0 victory over Emerson College in its first dual match of the year in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Junior Trent Newman led five double-winners for Stonehill. He and classmate Russell White started with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Skyhawks. Newman then followed that up with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Emerson sophomore Bass Lin, while White defeated freshman Robert Comunale 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

Senior Samuel Miller and freshman Christian Duffy rounded out the doubles winners for Stonehill in the match, starting with a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Miller added a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles against freshman Max Chalik that clinched the match for the Skyhawks, while Duffy rallied from a set down to defeat sophomore Maximo Lawlor, 1-6, 6-2, 10-6. Sophomores Vincent Huynh and Juan Camilo Riano Rojas also earned points for the Skyhawks with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Lawlor and freshman Nicolai Dalmau posted a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles for Emerson.

Riano Rojas and freshman Ben Simmons added a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles for Stonehill. Riano Rojas went on to record a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles against freshman Alek Naim. Sophomore Vincent Huynh also earned a point for the Skyhawks at No. 5 singles.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it competes at the Connecticut College Invitational, starting at 10 a.m.
