Men's Tennis Wins Pair of Brackets at Stonehill Doubles Invitational

Newman/White win A-Championship, Miller/Duffy claim B-Bracket

EASTON, Mass. (September 8, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's tennis program saw pairings reach all four flight finals, capturing two, as it opened its season with its annual Doubles Invitational inside the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this weekend.

Juniors Trent Newman and Russell White led the way for Stonehill by winning the A-Flight Championship. The duo defeated the Wheaton College team of Ian Tracy and Josh Anschuetz in the championship match, 6-2. Newman/White reached the final by posting a quarterfinal round win over Henry Siercke and Julius Opaschowski, 6-2, and then slipped past the Connecticut College tandem of Julien Tein and Guillermo Garcia Rincon in the championship match, 6-3.

Senior Samuel Miller and freshman Christian Duffy won the B-Flight bracket, defeating Evan Goldsmith and SangJin Song from Connecticut College, 6-4 in the final. Miller and Duffy opened with a 6-3 win against Tom O'Leary and Jon Trefethen from Roger Williams College in the quarterfinals, before defeating Brady Ryan and Ethan Hall from Assumption, 6-4, in the semifinals.

Connecticut College won the C and D-Flight Brackets, with Stonehill placing pairings in each final. Zachary Danz and Brian Gould defeated Stonehill junior Aleksander Lazowski and sophomore Vincent Huynh, 6-4 in the C-Flight final. ConnCollege's Aaron Fleishman and Walter Komishane won the D-Flight finals, defeating Stonehill senior Aaron Diamond and junior Joey Conrod, 6-3.

Stonehill is off until next weekend, when it competes at the USTA/ITA Division II East Regional Championships, hosted by Saint Thomas Aquinas College and Queens (N.Y.) College, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York, starting Friday evening.
