Fedorov leads Warriors into semifinals as double-winner

MIDDLETON, Mass. (April 30, 2019) – Third-seeded Merrimack College, ranked No. 4 in the most recent NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, grinded out a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Stonehill College in first round action of the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Men's Tennis Tournament at Northeast Tennis Center this afternoon.

Merrimack (16-8, 7-2 NE10) advances to Thursday's semifinal round, where it will visit second-seeded Bentley University (15-7, 7-2 NE10), ranked sixth in the region, at 2 p.m. Stonehill sees its season draw to a close at 12-10 overall, including 4-5 in the NE10, with its 19th NE10 Tournament appearance.

Junior Alex Fedorov led Merrimack as a double-winner. He teamed up with freshman Jonathan Garcia for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles for the Warriors, before freshmen Alec Mackay Rodriguez and Marshall Wood clinched the doubles point with their 6-4 decision at No. 3.

Fedorov followed up the doubles win by battling past Stonehill sophomore Russell White in three sets, 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Freshman Andre Singer posted Merrimack's first singles point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles against junior Aaron Diamond, while junior Denis Davydov, ranked 11th in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region singles rankings, edged sophomore Trent Newman at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Freshman Vincent Huynh was in front at No. 4 singles for Stonehill, after winning the first set, when his match with freshman Conrad Koch was halted when contest was decided.
