Voigt and Hasicevic lead Spartans to seventh straight win

EASTON, Mass. (April 23, 2019) – Saint Thomas Aquinas College, ranked No. 9 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Region poll, picked up its seventh-straight win with a 6-1 victory over Stonehill College in non-conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Junior Enej Hasicevic and sophomore Paul Voigt were both double-winners to lead St. Thomas Aquinas to the win. The duo picked up the Spartans first doubles win with their 6-3 win at No. 2. Freshmen Marcel Volz and Mitchell Harrison clinched the doubles point for STAC by holding off a comeback from three games down by Stonehill sophomore Joey Conrod and freshman Vincent Huynh to win in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-2).

Voigt turned in a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles for STAC against Stonehill freshmen Juan Camilo Riano Rojas, while Hasicevic picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5 over junior Aaron Diamond. Juniors Tim Fleerkamp (Waalre, The Netherlands) and Luke Taplin and freshman Gijs Anton Offringa added singles wins for the Spartans.

Junior Samuel Miller earned Stonehill's point with a win at No. 1 singles, when Volz retired while Miller led 6-2, 2-1. Riano Rojas and sophomore Russell White also provided a win at No. 1 doubles over Fleerkamp and Taplin, 6-4.

Stonehill (12-8, 4-4 NE10) is back in action on Thursday, when it closes out its regular season schedule with a Northeast-10 Conference match with Franklin Pierce University, ranked seventh in the region, at Watt Courts at 3:30 p.m. St. Thomas Aquinas (13-5, 4-1 ECC) opens the East Coast Conference Tournament on Friday against NYIT at 2 p.m.
