Davydov leads five double-winners for Warriors

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 6, 2019) – Merrimack College, ranked No. 48 in this week's Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, claimed a 7-0 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at North Andover High School today.

Junior Denis Davydov led a group of five double-winners for Merrimack on the afternoon. He combined with freshman Conrad Koch to clinch the doubles point for the Warriors with their 6-3 win at No. 1. Davydov, ranked No. 11 in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, followed that up with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill sophomore Trent Newman, while Koch added a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 4 singles over freshman Vincent Huynh.

Junior Alex Federov and freshmen Jonathan Garcia and Alec Mackay Rodriguez rounded out the double-winners in the match for the Warriors.

Stonehill sophomore Russell White battled Federov to a third set super tiebreaker before falling 6-2, 4-6, 10-1 at No. 3 singles. White and sophomore Aleksander Lazowski were edged by a break in their match at No. 2 doubles against Federov and Garcia, 6-4.

Stonehill (9-6, 1-3 NE10) is back in action on Tuesday, when it visits Adelphi University for an NE10 match at noon. The Skyhawks return home on Thursday, April 11, to host Saint Anselm College at 3:30 p.m. Merrimack (10-6, 3-0 NE10) visits Nichols College for a non-conference match tomorrow at 1 p.m.
